Wedding Shoes
Once you have chosen your gown, shoes are the next step in perfecting your wedding day ensemble. Longer dresses may cover your entire feet, so shoes may be of less concern. Shorter dresses, however, will further accentuate your legs and feet, drawing attention to the shoes you choose.
Wedding shoes now are available in a number of different styles. No longer are you limited to the basic pump, although they are still quite popular. You first want to choose a wedding shoe that will compliment your gown. You can either try to match the fabric or texture of your dress or, alternatively, you can choose shoes that are directly opposite from the gown. For example, if a decorative gown is chosen, plainer shoes may be picked to emphasize your gown. Likewise, if you have an elaborate gown, it is also possible to choose an embellished shoe to create a matching ensemble. Swarovski crystals on your wedding shoes will look dazzling with a bejeweled gown. A satin or glossy finish on footwear will look well with satin or shiny material gowns. A matte (with no shine), luxe, or peau de soie will compliment silk, crepe, or tuile dresses. Although it may be difficult to find a perfect match, this work will be more than worth it come your wedding day.
Moreover, you will want to choose a shoe that fits your personal style and the theme of your wedding. An elegant evening reception calls for a fancier shoe, while a beach setting conjures images of the irresistible comfort of flats. Once chosen, try on your shoes with your gown so the gown length will be correct. If you switch shoes, check to be sure if the length is correct with another fitting. Do keep in mind that white colors can vary, but if the white of your dress does not match exactly with the shoes you love, don’t worry! Applying a bridal wash to shoes can make the white color of your shoes match exactly with your dress – just be sure to plan ahead! Also don’t forget to take into consideration your wedding venue – wearing high heels on cobblestone will not be very fun!
