Wedding Stationary - Invitations
Before sending out your invitations, there a few preparations you must make. Take one copy of your wedding invitation package to the post office to determine how much your postage will be for each invitation. This can easily save dollars in the long run if you save from paying an extra twenty cents on each invitation.
Remember, if your invitations have ribbons or lace or other embellishments that may become damaged through the mailing process, be sure to hand-cancel your envelopes at the post office!
If you are on a budget and looking to save money on your invitations, the following tips may help:
- Skip extras - forgo fancy embellishments such as engraving or ribbons
- No reception cards - If the reception is at the same location as the wedding, it is not necessary to include a separate reception cards
- RSVP - Instead of an envelope and folded card for your response cards, use a postcard. Postcards will be cheaper and postage will be cheaper. Wedding postcards may be hard to find, but you can always make your own if you are artistically inclined!
- Do not include any tissue - Some fancy customizable places charge for tissue. Today's printing techniques usually include no drying time, so the tissue protecting the card from the wet ink is usually no longer necessary. Although still commonly used due to tradition, this may be an easy way to save money. Be sure to check with your printer to see if this is possible!
- Use thermography - This is a cheaper alternative to engraving and looks great! The printing will still appear raised but at much less cost.
- Do it yourself - Instead of having the printer put your return address on envelopes, do-it-yourself and you may be able to save money.
- Order a sample - If possible you should try to order a sample invitation before ordering. The texture or look may be different than you had imagined. Sometimes sites will charge you for a sample, but will apply the sample fee to your invitation order.
- No double envelope - It may be unecessary to have an outer and an inner envelope. Inner envelopes are usually used where the invitations needs extra protection from the mailing process. This is another old tradition from old mailing days when mail would be more damaged; even though it looks nice, it is definitely not a requirement nowadays. Especially if you want to save trees, this can definitely be eliminated form your invitations.
- Always check - always check the wording and that you have all the information necessary on your invitation before placing your final order. Even if you've proofread it, have someone else proofread it too. This is worth your time because if there is a mistake, you will spend a lot more time and money correcting the mistake!
- Wedding on the Web - Use a wedding on the web site to manage your RSVP and directions. If most of your guests have access to the web, this can be an easy way to save money!
